About Me

At various points in my life, I’ve been a psychologist, a volunteer firefighter, a PR news editor, a college instructor, a winemaker, an oxygen delivery driver, and even a stand-up comic.

I know. It’s a lot.

So no, I didn’t set out to become a dissertation coach. It’s a role I gradually evolved into. It’s a natural expression of my life experience, education, knowledge, and temperament.

And I love it.

Honestly, I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Here’s something else I’ll admit: I used to believe that doctoral degrees were for “smart people”—you know, intellectuals, “brainiacs,” the Einsteins of the world. And I definitely didn’t see myself in that category. But I eventually worked my way through the educational system and earned a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Writing. I can honestly say that completing my dissertation was one of the most difficult challenges of my life. But I did it.

Not because I was a genius.

Not because I was gifted.

But simply because I worked hard and didn’t give up.

After earning my doctorate, I continued teaching. I enjoyed the classroom but found my true passion in the writing center. I worked one-on-one with students who felt overwhelmed by a process they didn’t fully understand. Over the years, my passion for writing and research grew to include coaching master’s and doctoral students.

I had found my calling.

Then, in 2005, I founded RS Consulting Services, LLC. My goal was (and still is) to provide the comprehensive support that so many doctoral candidates are missing on the dissertation journey:

  • Consistent guidance so you’re never wondering what to do next.

  • The knowledge and expertise to break down overwhelming tasks into very doable steps.

  • Academic experience grounded in decades of teaching and coaching.

  • Deep understanding of the emotional weight of the dissertation process.

  • Compassion for the struggles I know that you’re facing on the dissertation journey.

  • Tailored strategies based on your academic discipline, your goals, and your unique challenges.

If you're thinking about working with a dissertation coach, please call, text, or email at your convenience. I'd love to talk with you about your project.
